What We Do

Clearance
CDBA aims to monitor the bridleways within its area and deal with problems as they arise, for example overhanging vegetation and fallen trees. Whilst in theory such problems are the responsibility of the landowner or local authority, we find that in practice it is sometimes more effective to remove such obstructions ourselves. We have a small amount of equipment including a chainsaw, and have recently invested in a long-handled hedgecutter with the help of a grant from Shell Oil.
 

New Routes
As most riders and carriage drivers are aware, the establishment of new equestrian routes is a tricky business requiring ongoing research and liaison with local councils and landowners. CDBA has a good relationship with Bucks County Council and is often asked to represent the interests of local equestrians when access issues arise. We are working closely with the new Chilterns Traffic Management Project and have pointed out to them the areas where off-road routes are particularly needed. We also try to establish permissive paths where the formal dedication of bridleways is not possible.
 

Fun Rides & Competitions
Once or twice a year we organise informal events to have a bit of fun and raise money for the Association's work. At Easter 2003 we held an Easter Egg Hunt on horseback, and in August was our annual fun cross country jump.

We have also entered teams into the Chiltern & Thames Rider Showjumping Championships and done pretty well!

Other Events
Other events depend a great deal on what members would like to do  - there is no point organising something if no-one would enjoy it!
